Origami, 3D model and Printer

Origami

Origami is a form of Japanese art that uses paper to create decorations or models. Origami is created entirely by folding paper.

Template based origami

Template based origami is when objects, decorations or models are created by using templates to assist the creation of an origami. This is where you use scissors to cut out the model and then assemble the model together.

Today we learn how to use boolean. fisrtly we made two shapes, a box and a small rectangle.
the we made it a compound object and checked subtract from a to b which made a hole in the box.

3D printer limitations

We were given a talk today about how the 3D printer works and its limitations. The college 3D printer is capable of making layered pieces from melted plastic.

The limitations of the 3D printer is that the printers technique of printing is directly up, so if a model has something that hangs out, you will need to create supports in 3ds max so it does not fall off, as it uses melted plastic. The size of the model cannot be any bigger than 18x18cm, so size limits your creations. Also the costs are a factor of the 3ds printer because of the different you materials can use.

we also made a start on our 3D model from our plasticine models.
